Just because 2020 hasn’t exactly been the best year doesn’t mean Halloween has to be a bust, too. In fact, there’s plenty of magic in the air on October 31 this year thanks to a rare blue moon. 

What exactly is a blue moon? It’s when two full moons occur within the same calendar month. It’s pretty special to have a full moon fall on Halloween already—it only happens about every 19 years or so—but a blue moon on Halloween is even rarer.

At Halloween, it is believed that the veils between worlds are at their thinnest. We are halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice, a turning point in the season when we prepare for the cool months and shorter days.
